The person reports directly to the Head of EHS & Sustainability, Japan with very close work relation to the Process Safety Experts.

The PS expert is supported by the Region and Global Head of Corporate Process Safety & Risk Assessment.

His / Her main responsibilities are:

  • Ensures consistency and effectiveness of process safety and risk management in Japan, in line with Sika methodologies.
  • Coordinates and leads the implementation of PHA, Explosion Protection and Fire Prevention concepts in Japan, as a moderator.
  • Coordinates and leads the implementation of the Management of Change (MOC) process in Japan, supports the MOC coordinators.
  • Participates in major process safety incident investigations, root cause analyses and guides investigation team in determination of adequate corrective actions.
  • Training and guidance
    • Provides process safety training to the Japan team, as required.
    • Provides expert input to the development of safety concepts.
    • Exchanges experiences, develop and improve best practices in incident prevention.
    • Guides and supports assessment teams in proper risk evaluation and selection of appropriate safeguards.
  • Collaboration:
    • Works closely with the project and process engineers to design and maintain high process safety standards.
    • Collaborates with the Region PS&RM function in implementing PS&RM within Sika.

Your expertise - Our strength

EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years in Operation Roles inside the chemical industry, preferably in Factories with potential for Major Incident.
  • 4+ years as Process Safety Manager, PHA Facilitator or Process Safety/Risk Management Engineer

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Fluent in both Japanese and English
  • HAZOP, HAZID and Occupational Risk Assessment in the chemical industry
  • Explosion Protection and Fire Prevention methodologies.
  • Emergency Management
  • Basics in process automation, E&I Engineering, Safety Instrumented Function.
  • Thermodynamics, kinetic of chemical processes, Material Science.
  • Root cause analysis methodology
  • OSHA Process Safety Management Regulation (preferred)
  • NFPA standards about industrial and chemical hazards (preferred)
  • SKILLS

  • Project Management.
  • Teamwork, specifically as facilitator in multicultural groups.

Going Beyond. Together.

  • Working Hours: Flextime system, standard working hours 9:00 AM - 5:45 PM (core hours 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM)

  • Expected Overtime (per month): Approximately 5 to 10 hours

  • Business Trip Frequency: There is a high possibility of overnight stays, including multiple consecutive nights, but day trips make up the majority.
